This website calculates compliance with insulation targets of NZBC, Clause H1 as of 31 October 2007. It calculates compliance with the New Zealand Standard NZS4218:2004, Schedule and Calculation Methods, using the R-value targets from NZBC/H1 (October 2007) and for compliance with the Building Performance Index (BPI).

The Calculator should be used in conjunction with NZS4218:2004, which can be purchased from Standards New Zealand and the Energy Efficiency Clause H1 of the New Zealand Building Code.

Standards New Zealand has just published a new version of NZS4218. This new standard is not the Acceptable Solution for NZBC Clause H1 until the H1 Approved Documents refer to it. At this stage it is unlikely that this will happen before 2010. Until this is the case NZS4218:2004 (modified by the R-values listed in Clause H1) is the Acceptable Solution for H1.

This version of the H1 Calculator features a number of improvements, the most significant being that the Construction R-value Calculator is integrated into the H1 Calculator. The construction details are being saved together with your project and are automatically inserted into the compliance report.

This required significant modifications to the software. I did a lot of checking but there is a risk of some bugs being introduced and I would appreciate if you would let me know as soon as possible about any problems you come across. I plan to remove the old H1 Calculator version in a few weeks.

Any projects you create with this version of the H1 Calculator are also available to the old H1 Calculator, and vice versa.

Note: I am regularly adding further improvements to this calculator. I am always trying to conserve any previously saved projects but suggest that you keep printed copies of the compliance reports so that you can reproduce the results should the database records be damanged.
